Job Description

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer & Programmer has a multifaceted key role in solving complex manufacturing and programming challenges, leading and mentoring team members, and optimizing manufacturing processes. This hands-on role requires expertise in machining, programming, and manufacturing processes, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting, optimizing daily operations, and overseeing projects from development to execution. This role involves CNC programming, process improvement, and collaboration with vendors, customers, and upper management to drive manufacturing excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Manufacturing Process Optimization & Development:

 

  • Lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for aerospace components to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing methods, including workflow analysis and proper machine allocation, to enhance overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Take full ownership of manufacturing projects, from initial concept and design through development, implementation, and production.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and training materials for manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance in conducting root cause analysis of manufacturing defects and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Drive special projects, process improvement initiatives, and lean manufacturing efforts to enhance operational efficiency.

 

  • CNC Programming & Machining:

 

  • Review customer blueprints, CAD models, engineering plans, materials, and customer specifications to understand project requirements.
  • Design and create efficient CNC programs for high-speed 5-axis milling machines, ensuring optimal machining strategies and tool paths.
  • Coordinate with the estimating department to provide cost analysis for programming time, machining setup time, and production operations.
  • Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for machining work.
  • Maintain accuracy and tolerance specifications of projects and ensure adherence to quality assurance procedures.
  • Evaluate manufacturing process flow for both short and long-run orders, including routing through production cells, outside processes, and in-process/final inspection.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow and proper machine allocation.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating needed actions, addressing any irregularities, and ensuring continuity of quality.

 

  • Technical Leadership & Team Support:

 

  • Provide engineering and manufacturing mentorship, guidance, and support to machinists and programming team members to achieve production goals.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence on the shop floor.
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on support to resolve both manufacturing and programming challenges.
  • Act as a key point of contact for project-related issues, coordinating with all management and team members to ensure successful execution.
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering and production to ensure seamless communication and alignment on priorities.
  • Communicate and work effectively with all employees across different departments.

 

  • Project Management & Collaboration:
  • Ensure all projects are executed efficiently, meeting deadlines, quality standards, and time requirements.
  • Communicate with customers to address manufacturing requirements, resolve technical issues, and provide updates on project progress when needed.
  • Collaborate daily with supporting departments, including production, machining, maintenance, quality, and design engineering, to ensure timely delivery of products in the correct quantities.
  • Interface with vendors and customers as needed to facilitate project success.

QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering and CNC programming, preferably within the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Advanced understanding of 3, 4, and 5-axis machining, materials (including Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Titanium, Inconel, and Tool Steel), special processes, and tolerances.
  • Advanced knowledge of programming with GibbsCam, MasterCam, and VeriCut.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills and willingness to work directly on the shop floor.
  • Demonstrated understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Leadership & Communication:
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of managing teams and shop floor personnel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the capability to interface across all levels of the organization, including customers and vendors.
  • Good communication skills, attentive to detail, and possesses sound judgment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
     

  • Familiarity with aerospace standards such as AS9100 and NADCAP.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software and CNC programming for complex geometries.
  • Knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly processes in aerospace manufacturing.
