Job Description
Are you a hands-on Prototype Machinist who thrives on turning bold engineering concepts into real, functional parts?
We are seeking an experienced Prototype CNC Machinist / Programmer to help transform innovative design ideas into precision-engineered prototypes. In this role, you’ll work directly with toolmakers and engineers to machine, assemble, and deliver parts that shape the future of aerospace development.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine and fabricate prototype aerospace components, tools, and fixtures from rough design sketches to finished parts.
- Program, edit, and operate CNC Milling, Turning, and Mill-Turn equipment (including 5-axis).
- Apply expert GD&T knowledge to produce precision tools, molds, and components meeting exact geometric tolerances.
- Perform manual milling, turning, and grinding to refine parts and ensure optimal fit and finish.
- Develop, test, and iterate plastic injection mold tooling and short-run production parts.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback.
- Apply creative problem-solving and on-the-fly machining adjustments to achieve desired outcomes in a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Assist with machine selection, setup, commissioning, and maintenance as new capabilities are introduced.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in high-precision or aerospace machining.
- Strong background in 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC programming and editing.
- Proficiency with CAM software (Mastercam, HyperMill, Esprit) and 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Catia).
- In-depth understanding of G-code, M-code, and CNC controls.
- Expertise in GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Hands-on experience using CMMs, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height/depth gauges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience machining injection mold tooling, including wire and die-sinking EDM.
- Strong knowledge of aerospace materials and surface finishes.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving prototyping and development environment.
