Flight Test Engineer – 6-Month Contract
Location: Washington state – 2 months remote and 4 months on site
Rate: $85–$95 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)

A leading aerospace organization is seeking a skilled Flight Test Engineer for a 6-month contract within their Test & Evaluation Division. In this hybrid role, you’ll contribute to both live flight test programs and simulator based development, collecting and analyzing real-time data, supporting certification efforts, and ensuring simulator performance accurately reflects aircraft behaviour. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, pilots, and regulators to help deliver safe, compliant, and cutting-edge aviation solutions.
Responsibilities of Test Flight Engineer
- Support the planning, execution, and analysis of flight and ground tests across aircraft platforms (including Part 23, 25,)
- Collaborate on simulator validation and certification activities, including data correlation between real flight tests and simulated performance
- Assist in developing test plans and evaluation scripts used for simulator qualification
- Work with simulator and flight test teams to ensure high-fidelity replication of aircraft behaviour
- Author test documentation such as Flight Test Engineering Orders (FTEOs), hazard analyses, and test reports
- Support real-time data monitoring and analysis, both in flight and in simulator environments
- Participate in simulator testing sessions, and work with pilots to evaluate control response, handling qualities, and system behaviour
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including FAA representatives, during test and certification phases
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in experimental flight test engineering
- Familiarity with FAA Part 23, 25 certification processes.
- Strong background in test planning, data analysis, and test maneuver build-up techniques
- Exposure to emerging aviation technologies (e.g., electric or hydrogen propulsion)
- Desirable: Private Pilot License or strong understanding of the mindset of pilots
- Bonus: Experience with aircraft simulators
