Cost Accountant - Mason Controls

Summary of the Cost Accountant position:
Under supervision of the VP, Finance, this position performs a wide variety of duties related to inventory valuation, development project accounting, and management reporting. This position requires an analytical mindset, initiative, and judgment.  An understanding of inventory valuation and project accounting concepts in accordance with US GAAP is necessary as is maintaining a strong internal control environment.
 
Position duties of the Cost Accountant position:
 
• Perform inventory valuation steps as part of normal close process including reconciliations, valuation analysis, post journal entries, and prepare financial reports.
• Calculate inventory reserves including: excess & obsolete, lower of cost and net realizable value, inventory variance capitalization, and period end cut-off
• Maintain processes and controls related to inventory and project accounting including cycle count processes.
• Calculate overhead rates for use internally as well as for government contracting compliance. 
• Analyze variance and exception reports
• Investigate data and current cost allocation methodology to eliminate waste, driving improvement in working capital, processes, and cost.
• Complete special projects, as assigned
• Assist in support of internal, external, SOX audits. 
• Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above
 
Qualifications, education & experience required for the Cost Accountant: 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required
• Experience of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (aerospace preferred).
• Understanding of US GAAP and SOX
• Understand various accounting process flows in order to create and implement new processes, policies & procedures customized for Mason Controls.
• Advanced skill in Excel, Intermediate skill in Word, PowerPoint
• Positive attitude & aptitude for change, team spirit, sound reasoning and problem solving abilities
• Interface effectively with other employees from production to the senior staff level, across multiple departments
• Able to perform supply chain cost analysis, cost benefit analysis, and identify improvements
• High attention to detail and maintaining accurate information
• Able to multi-task and work autonomously in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
• ERP Knowledge should include SyteLine, LN, other Infor products, as well as others
ERP “Data mining” and “Report writing” desirable
